Our Story

How it all started...

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Healdsburg, California, was officially incorporated on December 15, 1955 as a ministry of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Since its founding, the church has become a fixture in Sonoma County’s wine-country community. Over the years the congregation has emphasized family-friendly ministry, youth and family programs, and community service, distinguishing itself as known locally for its relaxed yet rooted Lutheran approach. The church continues to celebrate it's 70 years in ministry playing a meaningful role in Healdsburg’s faith and educational life.

meet our pastor...

Pastor Phil Beyer is all about keeping Christ at the center of everything. As pastor at Good Shepherd in Healdsburg, he loves walking alongside people as they grow in faith, discover God’s grace, and share His love in everyday life.

Music and worship are close to Pastor Phil’s heart—he sees them as beautiful ways to connect with God and one another. Whether he’s leading a song, preaching, or sharing a moment of prayer, his greatest joy is seeing people encounter Jesus together.

Originally from Michigan, Pastor Phil has served churches in Elko, Nevada; Honolulu, Hawaii; and for over 20 years across California. Along the way, he’s come to deeply value community, good food, and genuine fellowship—the kind that reminds us we’re all part of God’s family.

When he’s not at church, you might find Pastor Phil enjoying a great meal with friends, exploring local spots, or simply soaking in the goodness of God’s creation here in beautiful Sonoma County.

Where we are headed...

At Good Shepherd, we’re excited about what’s ahead! We believe God is calling us to keep growing as a community that helps people know and follow Jesus in real, everyday ways. Our goals include to building up our children’s ministry, getting more involved in the life of our Healdsburg community, and creating even more opportunities for connection and faith. Most of all, we want to help each other live Christ-centered lives—sharing His love, grace, and joy wherever we go.
